To that end it was never intended to be an air superiority fighter nor a strike platform. The RAAF however, needed the aircraft to be all of these things and developed it’s roles accordingly. WebbNo 79 Sqn operated the Mirage until 1988 when the aircraft was finally withdrawn from Australian service. The 50 surviving aircraft were eventually sold to Pakistan in 1990.
