WebFor me it started when I got GMod over Christmas/New Year, so I assumed it was linked to me installing that. I'd played TF2 for a year of so before that with no problems. Now on pretty much every launch of TF2 it wants to validate files (I'm unsure whether it does it when launching GMod, but it doesn't happen when starting steam, unlike OPs case).
